About Wood Badge 2019
Wood Badge training is available only to registered adult (at least 18) members of the Boy Scouts of America. All participants must have completed the Basic Training for their primary Scouting position. Basic Training generally consists of:
- Youth Protection
- Fast Start Training
- New Leader Essentials
- Position Specific Training, and for some,
- Outdoor Leadership Skills training
What is Wood Badge?
In 1911, Baden-Powell took the first steps in training Scouting’s adult leaders by organizing a series of lectures. The first Wood Badge training session was held in 1929. How is Wood Badge Presented?
Wood Badge consists of two phases. The first phase is the practical phase, which consists of two weekends at camp. You will live and work through the life as a youth in the BSA program. The second phase occurs after the course and consists of “working your ticket.”
What is a Ticket?
The Wood Badge “Ticket” represents your commitment to complete a set of goals related to your position in Scouting. The ticket gives you an opportunity to practice and demonstrate a working knowledge of the leadership skills presented during the course.
You will complete your ticket no later than 18 months after the course.

Course Dates: August 23-25, 2019 and September 6-8, 2019
This is a 2-weekend course. Must attend both weekends to complete course.

$255.00 (early reg. only $230)
The fee includes meals, cracker barrels, program materials, and recognition items. A $75.00 deposit is required with a completed application (Letter of Acceptance to the course). Early reg. ends April 29, 2019.
An application and a $75.00 deposit are due by May 1, with the balance of the $255.00 fee due by July 1, 2019.
This course will be limited to 48 participants with applicants accepted in the order their applications are received. A standby list will be formed once the course has been filled.
Medical Examination Requirement:
Each participant must submit an approved medical form (parts A, B and C) for a complete physical that was performed within one year before the final day of the course.
The Wood Badge course is a uniformed activity. The uniform you wear will be the official field uniform (Class "A") for your registered Scouting position and will include uniform shirt, pants (or shorts), belt, and socks. A course cap will be provided for you.
A Question of Money?
Some dedicated Scouters find the financial obligation of training a true burden. Help is available through several areas. Be sure to check for financial support from your unit, sponsoring organization, or even your employer (it is a leadership course). Although Wood Badge is a training course, not a recognition program, completion of Wood Badge does serve to recognize leadership. Recognition for the successful completion of Wood Badge consists of a parchment certificate, a distinctive Wood Badge neckerchief with a woggle and the Wood Badge (two wooden beads worn on a thong around the neck). The Wood Badge is recognized worldwide as a symbol of practical training and leadership experience. There are two parts to Wood Badge in the Boy Scouts of America, the practical course and the application period.
